Table Manners: Work Schedule Spring 2020

This is the work schedule for the Spring 2020 semester sections of Table Manners: Functional Pottery. Please make sure to check back frequently as this schedule will change as the semester progresses. All assignment outlines are hyperlinked below. Remember, all assignments will be posted to your Eport AND you will need to post the hyperlink in the shared course Excel Document located here in the appropriate column.

WEEK 1

January 21

  • Art & Design vocabulary review in class
  • Discuss homework for Project #1
  • Review pinch pots: one with carving and one with additive details
    • Homework:
      • watch video here on slab building in preparation for next class
      • Look for 3 handled cups that you find interesting in design and document them for next class.
      • Sketches of two handled cups
      • What will these objects be used for?

WEEK 2

January 28th

  • Begin PROJECT #1 Cups that relate
    • After demonstration or watching video here construct 2 cylinders
    • Review Terms & Processes
    • Sketches of two handled cups and 3 reference images
    • What will these objects be used for?

30th

  • Art & Design vocabulary review in class as well as terms and processes
  • review sketches and research for project #1
  • Work on cups

      • Start working on your Eport
        • Guidelines for what your Eport should contain HERE

WEEK 3

February

4th

    • Create 3 leather hard press form squares and 2 stamps/ 
    • Pottery Research.
  • Everybody is to research one of the below assigned pottery movements. You will each present briefly in class on February 11th and create a blog post on your Eport that goes with it.
  • Make sure to have:
    • the dates they were active
    • have 2-3 images
    • 3 key points of interest regarding the work
    • your observations on the work using Art & Design Terminology

WEEK 5

  • Review Blog Posts and brief presentations
  • Review Potters submitted on Excel Document
  • Look at texture stamps from project #2.
  • Working crit of Project #3

      • Look at project #4 and sketch out ideas using stamps from project #2

20th

  • Review Project #3: critique

  • discuss firing terminology from Vocabulary & Technical Terms

WEEK 6

February

25th

  • Group REVIEWS OF POTTERY Movements: in groups of 3 during class time. Consider the below questions and document them on your present blog post.
    • What were similarities in the works produced?
    • Did/could geographic areas they were created in make a difference in the influence between cultures? 
    • How did/could the production periods influence each other?
    • What was the timeline for each period?
  • review POTTER BLOG proposals
    • See requirements for Potter Blog post here
      • DUE: Friday March 6th by 5pm
  • Final critique of Project #3
    • bowls into kiln room to go bone dry
  • Work on Project #4

27th

  • Review Project #4: Critique 
  • Work on Assignment #4
  • What is due for 6 week grades?
    • Eport Posts:
      • A post that covers all projects to date. That’s:
        • Project #1: Cups that Relate
        • Project #2: Texture investigations
        • Project #3: Bowls that relate
          • Due Friday February 28th by 5pm posted to the course Excel document
      • First Eport post
      • Pottery Research
      • Project #1 critique review of another persons project (this was our final critique of cups)
      • Guidelines for what your Eport should contain and what a Project Post needs to have HERE

    • moving online until April 6th

19TH

  • Lets start by TAKING A BREATHER from it all and look at CLAY and touch base on social media!
    • Take a look at some ceramic art/artists on ArtAxis
    • Check out ClayAkar for lots of other fantastic makers
    • ASSIGNMENT: post an artist whose work you appreciate and briefly explain why on social media using #nick7eclay .
      • Remember to # or @ tag the artist. They will appreciate the promotion of their work!!

WEEK 9

March

24TH  

  • ZOOM meeting (10am for morning section and 1pm for afternoon) TBA to see where everybody is at and potentially update everybody.
  • Almost everybody has posted the Potter they are creating an Eport post on in the course Excel document.

31ST

  • Work on Project #5 Final Project proposal
    • There are specific questions and references that need to be in this proposal. Please review project above and post!! Due posted to the course Excel document by Friday April 3rd.
  • When you post your link look on the class Excel sheet at what others are planning and then…
    • review a classmates Eport post and make a comment. What would you change? Do you have suggestions? If it’s a great idea why? What could make the work stronger? ELABORATE!!

APRIL

2ND  

  • PROOF READ, cite, and post your Final Project Proposal Eport in the course Exel document.

WEEK 11

APRIL
